The Laud-a-to-si Chorus

For those who haven't time to read the whole encyclical, here's a singable version, which contains the essence of the Pope's thinking. The more traddy version is here, with music by Handel.
Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si!
For the environment's a mess.
Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si!

For the environment's a mess.
Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si!
Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si!
choir in St Peter's, Rome

Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si!

The world is heating up
Yes it's true, the world is heating up,
It's all your fault, it's all your fault;
And we shall burn for ever and ever,
For ever and ever, for ever and ever.
lake of fire

If only we'd turned those lights off!

Carbon's bad, yes, carbon's bad,
Carbon's bad, yes, carbon's bad,
Yes, carbon's bad,
And we shall burn,
And we shall burn for ever and ever.
Carbon's bad, for ever and ever,
Yes, carbon's bad,
Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si!
Paul Inwood

"Hmm! A bit repetitive!" (Paul Inwood)

And we shall burn for ever and ever.
Carbon's bad, yes, carbon's bad,
And we shall burn for ever and ever.
Carbon's bad, yes, carbon's bad,
Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si! Laud-a-to-si!

  1. Paula N Wood has provided the NO liturgical performance with some great green numbers. "Contour of My Leaf" is very well-known; "Incendiary Flares" is an anti-open burning hymn; "Carbon, Watch, White" with that catchy use your car less number, "Wise Up and Zing".

  2. I don't think an environmentally-conscious God would willing increase carbon emissions by sending so many to Hell to burn there for all eternity, so surely it stands to reason that we can have reasonable eco-friendly hope that the place is empty ?

  3. I'd give the tune a 7.5: it's catchy, perky. Not sure if it will catch on, because the lyrics are as Inwood thinks, a bit repetitive. But they seem to work with the music, so that's a good thing. Also, it gently reminds us that we should not waste air, carbon, plastic, fuel, etc, because we might end up with a lesser degree of heaven than if we don't waste them. Fortunately there is no punishment for this violation., so we can all, ultimately, be very happy (or a little less so...).

  4. If my tap leaks I send for a plumber. If I am concerned about a scientific matter I consult a scientist. In neither case do I require a clergyman however exhalted.

  5. Like... the Pope should get out of the kitchen. innit? Global warming is cool.

  6. I wonder if Hell is subject to warming. May we expect a pronouncement on that ? It is within the scope of Faith and Morals.

  7. I am truly shocked that you didn't include the Tiny Tim tune: The Icecaps are Melting, the tide is Rushing in! Shame on you.
