Erdő, Parolin 6, Tagle 5, Turkson, Zuppi 4, Besungu, Bo, Eijk, Pizzaballa, Prevost, Sarah 3,so it probably won't be any of those. Time for another Pope Linus? Instead, we're holding a World Cup to see whether we can guess the name that the next Pope will take. The obvious choice is Eccles, but in fact the 24 nominees are:
Adrian Alexander Benedict Boniface Clement Eugene Felix Francis Gregory Innocent John John-Paul Julius Leo Martin Nicholas Paul Peter Pius Sergius Sixtus Stephen Theodore Urbanand if we are quick we can get a decision in time for the white smoke. Some people will never be happy.
SEMIFINALS John 48.9 v Leo 51.1 Clement 40.4 v Gregory 59.6 FINAL Leo 50.0 v Gregory 50.0 A dead heat. Let's leave it as that. The next pope is going to be Leo XIV or Gregory XVII (unless he's not very good at Roman numerals). ADDENDUM: Well, those who said Leo XIV got it right!
Since we don't know what the terms of the secret treaty with Beijing are, my guess is Chang.
ReplyDeletePope Zephyrinus II is an obvious favourite. Certain to get the Greek vote, anyway.
ReplyDeleteWill it be Müller ?
ReplyDeleteNo Twitter so I won't participate, but is it time for Pope Martin VI ?
I becciu we won't get a Pope Theodore any time soon
ReplyDeleteZozimus II is surely in the running Bruh. Or as we've had a Francis from Society of Judas, what about a Dominic from the Order of Preachers?
ReplyDeleteMy money's on Mohammed.
ReplyDeletePenseivat
Is that his Christian name ?
DeleteTruly amazing. I was genuinely interested to see if you could have brought some charity into your first post since Pope Francis was called home to the Father's house. Instead, just contempt. Jabba too. So sad. I wish you well folks. I learned my lesson: the new Holy Father will have my support from Day 1, even if I do not like his politics.
ReplyDeletePax et bonum.
Chales Moore in the Spectator wants Timothy Radcliffe OP.
ReplyDeleteIf Cardinal Erdö (Hungary) gets the nod, almost certainly he will choose Hungary's National Saint, Stephen, as his Papal name. Thus becoming Pope Stephen X.
ReplyDeleteYou heard it here first on Eccles' Grapevine.
I is so impressed by de Rabit's scorn and contempt for de sens of humour Bruvver !!
ReplyDeleteIs all de peeple where Pacha is cluching dare perls like dis ?
Jabba, the marvellous joy of Eco's "The Name of the Rose" speaks to our time: he satirised the absence of a sense of philosophical comedy in the Catholic church. Humour is something else. It is the essence of our humanity. Cruelty is not humour. Obedience as a Catholic is possible while maintaining our humour and humanity. :-)
DeleteThere is always the possibility of a rank outsider being elected.
ReplyDeleteRemember, there has already been a Pope elected who, at the time of his election, WAS NOT A PRIEST !!!
That was Pope Leo X (reigned 1513 - 1521).
Eccles might still get the nod !!!
