This is the spiritual journey of me, Eccles, my big brother Bosco, and my Grate-Anti Moly. Eccles is saved, but we've got real problems with Bosco and Anti.
This is me, Eccles

How to be the Supreme Governor of a Church
Every so often someone comes up to me and says, "Eccles, my mother has just died, and apparently I am now
Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Can you give me any advice?"
I am used to giving advice to major religious leaders - for example, see some of the "How to be a Good Pope" articles linked
here, which have made
Pope Francis the man he is today. So of course I am happy to oblige.
Well, the Church of England was founded by King Henry VIII, basically because he wasn't too pleased by the Catholic Church's
"Till death us do part" attitude to marriage. Henry loved marriage, but only four of his six marriages
were ended by death (two beheadings and two natural deaths, in fact, the last one being his own).
Now, if you wish to be SG of the C of E you need to model yourself on this saintly character, perhaps by taking as
your own wife the lady Camomile, whose
husband is still alive.
Now, why are the royal couple defending the faith by packing dates? Read on...
O.K., that's sorted. Now, you may want to make sure that you believe all the official C of E teaching, and share it
with your subjects. Luckily there isn't much: nobody (least of all the bishops)
can agree on same-sex marriage, women priests, divorce, the existence of
God, etc. etc. So we can skip that step.
Your current Prime Minister, although himself an atheist, is VERY FOND of Islam. He'd better be, or else
all the Muslims in the country will vote for someone else: probably Liberal Democrats but maybe some sort
of Allahu Akbar Party which may cut into your hopes of staying in office.
So how can you reflect this in your own activities?
A message from the Defender of the Faith.
Simple: Ramadan is approaching, a time of repentance and sacrifice in which we remember Mohammed's temptations in the wilderness. Devout Muslims fast all day (not even an Allahu Snackbar is allowed)
and then they fill up on yummy dates and sheeps' eyes with a big blow-out after dark.
So, just like Lent for Christians, wouldn't you say?
So forget Lent, just celebrate Ramadan. Attend an Iftar (Arab word for "binge") and
keep telling everyone how wonderful Islam is. We'll be coming soon to Eid (as in "Beware the Eids of March"),
which is the Islamic version of Holy Week when we remember the prophet's death upon the cross crescent.
And then the Resurrection - oh, he didn't manage that one, did he? Well, never mind.
Phew! There was time for more Christian activity, after all.
Your Majesty, you can thank me by making me Sir Eccles, Knight of the Garter.

Ordo Amoris for beginners
Many readers have asked me to explain "Ordo Amoris", which is in the news at the moment. Is it related to Novus Ordo? Or to Amoris Laetitia? Or is it something else entirely?
St Venn tries to explain Ordo Amoris by a diagram.
Well, in fact, Ordo Amoris is one of those bits of Christian doctrine that can be traced back to St Augustine and
St Thomas Aquinas, two Doctors of the Church who, coincidentally, won Silver and Gold medals, respectively, in
the recent World Cup of Pot-Biblical saints.
But who are these old fogeys to set their opinions against those of future Doctors of the Church such as Fr James Martin LGBTSJ,
Austen "Rupnik stays up on my wall" Ivereigh, and Mike Lewis of Where Pachamama Is?
The most telling argument against Ordo Amoris is that it is espoused by JD Vance of the "Nasty Orange Man" team.
He claims to be a Catholic, but obviously can't be named in the same breath as Joe Biden, Grand Bricklayer and Plasterer
Pursuivant of the Masonic Order of Planned Parenthood.
Devout Catholic (retd.)
There is a way of producing an argument that is based on cutting out random bits of scripture, boiling them in acid for 24 hours, and then presenting them as unassailable doctrine. With this you can argue that parents should neglect their children and spend their time in
educating the natives of Borrioboola-Gha, on the left bank of the Niger. (I pinched that from
the great Mrs Jellyby in Bleak House, by the way.)
After all, did Jesus not ask us, in the parable of the Good Samaritan, to identify who was the neighbour of the
poor chap who was robbed? Actually, it may have been a trick question, as nowadays you are quite likely to be mugged
by your neighbours, especially if you live in London.
Anyway, once you have put yourself above Trump and Vance, you may as well go for their friend Elon Musk, and
even Calvin Robinson of the Almost-Catholic Church. Here you have an easy target, as they are obviously all Nazis!
The Fascist greeting, "My heart goes out to you."
To those of us in the know, "My heart goes out to you" - or in German "Heil Hitler!" - is a code phrase meaning "We are ready to annex Canada, Panama, Greenland, and Poland." Don't be fooled by its appearance in a pro-life context. If you need more proof, look at this message from that well-known fascist King Charles III in the guise of condolences for the recent air crash in Washington.
See! No prayers, just a fascist message about hearts! I guess that, as supreme governor of the Anglican Church, he would not dare offer prayers, as it would offend many of his bishops. Well, I hope you found that helpful. For more information, see Pope Francis's next apostolic exhortation "Ordo Amoris is a Synodal Matter".Saturday, 6 July 2024
The Book of Numbskulls 2 - after the fall of Bosis
After some delay, continued from Chapter 1.
1. Following the fall of Bosis, it was decided that the children of Bri-tain would be led by his servant Trusshua.
But Liz telleth Liz that she will not be around for long.
2. Thus Trusshua went to see the Queen of Elisheba to receive the holy seals of office.
3. And such was the joy of Elisheba that she died three days later, to be succeeded by her eldest son,
the King Charlemagne III.
The Lady of the Lake giveth the sword to Charlemagne.
4. So for ten days there was no government, as the country went into mourning, and the critics said:
"All goeth very well at present. Can we not mourn for a few more years?"
5. But it was not to be, and Trusshua was obliged to govern. Thus she asked her chancellor, the Quartengmaster,
to produce a mini-budgie, which would greatly increase the wealth of the people of Bri-tain.
6. However, the mini-budgie refused to fly, and the people were exceedingly wrathful.
7. Indeed, they stayed wrathful for another eighteen months, as we shall see.
This budgie is not more. It hath ceased to be.
8. Thus it was decided that Trusshua must go. But she spake out boldly, saying "I am a fighter not a quitter."
9. And then she resigned on the next day.
10. So this time the Conservatites decided that voting on a new leader was not a good idea.
11. Besides, if
they chose anyone except Rishi the Sunakite, he would destroy the lucky one with
plagues of cake and budgies.
12. Thus Rishi went to see King Charlemagne, to tell him that he was
the people's choice.
13. And thus he was ready to meet other world leaders too.
Bless you! I'm the people's choice too!
To be continued.

How to run a Coronation
I was (of course) invited to the Coronation of King Charles III, and so I picked up a few tips on
how such events should be run. Indeed, since a Coronation is just a sort of Mass run by Anglicans with
a few traditional add-ons, some of the features I observed could easily be incorporated
into a Novus Ordo Mass (or, with more difficulty, the Traditional Latin Mass).
Proof that I was there!
Now, when the celebrant enters the church, it is not appropriate to have someone
carrying a cross in front, as this may offend Muslims, Hindus, Anglicans, Jesuits, and
anyone else who has dropped in to keep out of the rain. No, what we need is a Valkyrie with
a giant sword.
"Smite ye the ungodly" (Psalm 160).
If it is a Catholic Mass you will need some special guests to give it a spiritually nourishing flavour.
A man dressed as the Pope, perhaps. A ballet dancer practising Ignatian Yoga. Or this:
It's G.K. Chesterton!
An interlude - in America they have different notions of the proper procedures for a Coronation Mass.
For example, the presence of a QAnon shaman is considered desirable on ecumenical grounds.
Zadok the Priest and QAnon the Shaman anointed Joe Biden KING!
Back to Westminster Abbey. The best Masses have gospel dancers singing and cavorting around but it is not strictly necessary, so we'll skip that.
You may also have young people who have been dragged into church kicking and screaming - they don't want to be there, and you don't want to see them. The answer is to hide them behind a lady with a big feather on her hat.
In a minute he is going to sneeze...
Well, that's all, folks. And remember, if you have celebrated your Saturday Mass with some high-quality
music, then you can always organize a Glastonbury-type concert for the tone-deaf masses the next day; this is a Sunday, and
therefore need not be regarded as holy.
"You is not saved only we is saved." (Suitable for either event.)

Royal Palaces could become Catholic monasteries
It is reported today that King Charles has not ruled out the possibility of making
reparations to the Catholic Church for the actions of King Henry VIII in dissolving the
monasteries and nationalizing the churches and cathedrals.
Buckingham Palace said on Thursday that his Majesty took the issue ``profoundly seriously"
having previously expressed his ``personal sorrow" over the suffering of Catholics who were robbed and martyred by
the Tudors.
A Palace spokesman said that the question whether the King might donate his royal residences - Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle,
Sandringham, Balmoral, etc. - to the Catholic Church for use as cathedrals - or, more practically, as desirable monasteries
- amounted to speculation as this stage, but could not be ruled out.
Soon to be St Thomas More Abbey?
"It makes a lot more sense than trying to `compensate' victims of slavery, when after all we were the ones who
abolished slavery, doesn't it!" commented the spokesman.
If the Royal Family does decide to vacate its properties, it will no doubt require alternative
accommodation, and the Royal Househunter Poursivant has already been looking for suitable
property in the Islington area ``where all the rich woke people live".
An alternative possibility is that King Charles may choose to live somewhere like
Fountains Abbey, which would require too much trouble to rebuild to its
original purposes.
A home suitable for a king?
Fountains is one of many examples of Reformation Architecture. As the Estate Agents point out,
it is very well-ventilated, with many walls and windows removed to enhance the views of
the surrounding countryside and cut down on maintenance costs. Since Fountains
has no roof, the rooms are also provided with ecologically sensitive shower facilities, which
consume no energy. (One can wear one's crown if the rain is too heavy.)
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very appreciative of the King's plans, and hope to
be allocated a ruined abbey of their own in due course. "Meghan gets a bit emotional
sometimes," quipped Harry, "and if the house is already vandalised she can throw plates
around without anybody minding."
Shall we see the Sussexes moving to Whitby?

Design your own God!
As a service to my friend "Archbishop" Justin Welby (He/Him on the one hand, She/Her on the other hand, and also Bleep/Bloop in a very real sense)
we are providing some useful advice to the Church of England as it decides to reject Christianity and go its own way
(no longer following the 1st Century Heiliger Geist but the 21st century Zeitgeist).
The statue of Christ the King is attacked by a Welby-CottrellTM Death Ray.
From now on all religious documents, Bibles, hymn books, prayer books, etc. will need to be pulped and replaced
by new "Woke" editions. OUT GO God the Father, Our Father who art in Heaven, Lord Jesus Christ, etc. and IN COME
God the parent, Our parent who art - somewhere or other, but it may be downstairs rather than upstairs - and Christ the Aristocrat.
Fr James Martin LGBTSJ (slightly Catholic) has already decreed that the Holy Spirit is feminine.
"Isn't this going to cost a lot of money?" you may be asking. Well, it should be possible to divert all
that cash we're giving to earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria into more worthy causes, such
as making sure that nobody is upset by God's choosing a gender that they find offensive (this is far worse than being trapped under a collapsed building!) In Phase 2 we'll be sending the Muslim world
new non-binary Korans, anyway.
Still, while we're updating all the Church of England books, please note that we have been
asked by our Supreme Governor, King Charles III, or at least by some of his menials (M.P.s)
to allow blessings of sin.
We're starting slowly with same-sex relationships (or "marriages" as they are laughingly called).
A suitable liturgy is being drafted, but since this is the C of E you are of course allowed
to make up your own words and nobody will complain.
Next month we shall be dismantling the ten commandments: adulterers, thieves and murderers
are already queuing up for blessings.
"O God (He/She/They), who gave us Henry VIII (He/Him) as a model for our church, and thus inspired us to follow
his path of adultery, theft and murder, we ask you now to bless "Casanova" John, "Fingers" Irene, and "Slasher" Maurice
as they pursue their spiritual paths of lechery, shoplifting and throat-cutting."
LATE NEWS: God is apparently not amused by the Church of England's activities, and the end of the world has accordingly been
advanced. Well, you can't say that we didn't all deserve a bit of smiting...
God decides to fix climate change.
